Registering a Tablet with a Location

Before you can register a tablet for use with a location, you must first install the Mobile App on the tablet.

The instructions below are for registering a tablet at a location. Once registered, managing tablets is carried out through the Server App, including editing the tablet configuration, moving the tablet to a different location, and decommissioning the tablet.

There are two basic steps to registering a tablet at a location:

  1. In the Server App, accessing the Tablets page for the location where you want to register the tablet, and starting the registration process.
  2. In the Mobile App, registering the tablet at the location.

There are two methods you can use for registering a tablet:

  1. Scanning a QR Code generated by the Server App.
  2. Entering a One-Time Code generated by the Mobile App that is then entered into the Server App.

You can also re-register the tablet at a location if, for some reason, the tablet is no longer connected with the location, for example: you moved it to another location and now you want to move it back.

Registering a Tablet with a Location using a QR Code (First Time)

To use a QR code to register a tablet at a location for the first time after installing the Mobile App, carry out the following:

  1. Sign onto the Server App:

  2. Make the active workspace the location where you want to register the tablet (see Changing the Active Workspace (Group or Location)).
  3. Click Configuration > Devices > Tablets. The tablets page appears:

    • If no tablets have been registered at the location, the tablets page appears as follows:

  6. Point the tablet's camera at the QR code on the Register New Tablet dialog in the Server App, and tap SCAN QR CODE in the Mobile App:

  7. Adjust the position of the tablet to scan the QR code. When successfully scanned, the screen darkens and an Authenticating icon appears and spins:

When authentication has been completed, the Mobile App Dashboard appears:

    • If the Login failed message appears, it means the QR code you scanned has either expired (they are only valid for 24 hours) or you scanned a QR code that was not generated by the Server App:

      • Generate a new QR code in the Server App and then scan it.
  8. In the Server App, close the Register New Tablet dialog by clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner. The Tablets page refreshes with a card for the new tablet appearing in the Currently Active section:

    • If a card for the tablet does not appear, wait a few minutes and then refresh the page using the browser's refresh button.
    • If a card for the tablet still does not appear, you may need to register the tablet again.

You are all set!

You can now complete any checklist available for the location, as well as start and complete timed logs. If you want to limit which checklists can be completed on the tablet, you will need to edit its configuration in the Server App and choose which checklists you want to make available on the tablet (for more information, see Managing Tablets: Editing a Tablet).
