Working with Sensors on the Mobile App v6 Home Screen

  • Updated

This article is for Mobile App v6. If you are looking for help with Mobile App v5.3, click here.

If you are migrating from v5.3 of the Mobile App, you will recognize most of what you see in the Sensors tab as what was displayed in the middle of the Dashboard screen with some nice additions.

The Sensors tab at the bottom of the Home screen displays information about the sensors at your location. It is divided into four actionable lists:

Each list contains sensor cards that contain information specific to the list (for more info, see Understanding Sensor Cards). From a sensor card you can carry out the following:

Alerts (default)

The Alerts list displays the number of sensor alerts that have been triggered and are currently unresolved at your location:

This is the default view and provides you with the following sensor card for each active alert:

  • An alert message and when it was trigged
  • The standard sensor details (for more info, click here)
  • A description of any Corrective action that was already entered
  • A link to entering a Corrective action and resolving the alert (for more info, click here)
  • A link to Activate/Pause the sensor alerts (for more info, click here)

Incidents

The Incidents list displays the number of sensor alerts that have been triggered at your location during the past 24 hours:

This list provides you with the following sensor card for each incident:

  • An alert message and when it was trigged
  • The standard sensor details (for more info, click here)
  • A description of any Corrective action that was already entered
  • A link to enter a Corrective action (for more info, click here)
  • A link to Activate/Pause the sensor alerts (for more info, click here)

Paused

The Paused list displays the number of sensor that have had their alerts paused at your location:

This list provides you with the following card for each paused sensor:

  • A notification that the alerts have been Paused and when they will resume
  • The standard sensor details (for more info, click here)
  • A link to Activate the sensor alerts (for more info, click here)

Overview

The Overview list displays the total number of sensor at your location:

This list provides you with the following card for each sensor:

  • A notification if the sensor alerts have been Paused and when they will resume
  • The standard sensor details (for more info, click here)
  • A link to Activate/Pause the sensor alerts (for more info, click here)

Understanding Sensor Cards

There are three sensor card configurations, but all of them include the following information:

  • The name of the sensor
  • The identifier for the Device
  • The name of the Template used to define the sensor
  • A chart that shows temperature readings over the past 4 hours:
    • If the line is green and the background is white, it means the reading was in range for the sensor
    • If the line is red and the background is pink, it means the reading was out of range for the sensor
  • The min temp of the acceptable temperature range for the sensor
  • The max temp of the acceptable temperature range for the sensor

If you tap anywhere on the sensor card chart, the Sensor reading dialog appears with an expanded view of the card and its chart:

  • The chart presents the last 12 hrs readings from the current time (this is the default)
  • Tapping 24 hrs expands the chart to include readings from the past 24 hours up to the current time
  • Tapping Today displays readings since 12:00AM today
  • Tapping Yesterday displays readings between 12:00AM and 11:59PM on the date before today
  • Tapping 7 days displays readings from the past 6 days, plus today up to the current time
  • You can tap on the chart at any point to show the reading taken at that point on the chart:

  • You can place two fingers at any point on the chart, and spread them apart to zoom in on the graph:

    • To zoom back out, squeeze the fingers together
    • To return to the full chart, tap Reset zoom in the upper right corner of the chart

Battery status

Battery status is located in the upper right corner of the card and tells you if the batteries are fully charged (green), getting low (yellow), or needs replacing (red):

  • If the battery icon is red, you need to immediately replace the battery.
  • If the battery icon is yellow, you should get a new battery and have it available -- though we recommend replacing batteries even when they are yellow.

For more information on replacing batteries, see articles in the Sensor Batteries section.

Connection status

Connection status is located in the upper right corner of the sensor card (next to battery status) and tells you if the wi-fi signal is strong (green), weak (yellow), or failing (red):

The signal icon on the sensor card is an indicator of the sensor's performance, which is identified by the color:

  • A red icon means the sensor is at it's worst functional signal strength.  It will report a single reading every 15 minutes if received by the gateway and backlog pulls are not possible.
  • A yellow icon means the sensor can work as intended with temperature readings every 15 minutes and backlog pulls are possible.  However, if the environment changes in any way it could degrade to red.
  • A green icon means the signal between the sensor and the gateway is good, temperature readings are made every 15 minutes, backlog pulls are possible, and that data is being successfully transmitted.

Transmission of data to the server occurs every 20 minutes.

Obviously, the desired condition would be a green signal for all sensors. To resolve the issue where the signal is not green, you need to carry out one or more of the following:

  • Make sure there is nothing near the gateway that could block the signal from the sensors.
  • Make sure there is nothing near the sensors that could block the signal to the gateway.
  • Move the gateway closer to where the sensors with a yellow or red icon are located, making sure not to weaken the signal from sensors that have a green icon.
  • Add another gateway closer to where the sensors with a yellow or red icon are located.

Sensor Alert Status

The status of the sensor appears as a message at the top of the card:'

  • If an alert has been trigged for the sensor, a message appears letter you know that the alert was trigged and when it was triggered:

  • If the alerts for the sensor have been paused, a message appears letting you know they are paused and when they will be activated:

Adding Corrective Actions and Resolving Alerts

If an alert has been triggered for a sensor, you can enter corrective actions and resolve the alert through the sensor card on the Alerts or Incidents list:

  1. On the card, tap Corrective action. The Corrective action dialog appears:

    • The Condition that triggered the alert appears below sensor information.
    • Any previously entered Corrective action appears below Condition.
  2. In the Corrective action box, enter a description of what corrective action was taken to resolve the issue, and then tap Resolve:

The Corrective action is added to the sensor card:

    • If there was a previously entered corrective action, it is replaced with the new text.

Pausing/Activating Sensor Alerts

On sensor cards, you can change the sensor alert status:

  • On cards accessed from the Alerts, Incidents, and Overview lists, you can pause alerts for a sensor with active alerts:

    1. Tap Pause. The Pause duration dialog appears with a default value of 12 hours selected:

    2. If needed, choose the duration you want for pausing alerts:
      • Drag the ball right on the slide to increase the duration.
      • Drag the ball left on the slide to decrease the duration.
      • Use one of the predefined hours (2, 4, 8 or 12) or days (1, 2 or 3).
    3. Tap Pause sensor:

      • A confirmation appears:

      • The sensor card is updated:

        • A notification appears at the top of the sensor card (Paused and Overview lists only):
        • The sensor status button now reads Activate.
  • On cards accessed from any sensor lists, you can activate alerts for sensors with paused alerts:

    1. Tap Activate. The activate sensor confirmation dialog appears:

    2. Tap Activate. The sensor card is updated:

      • Alerts are activated
      • The pause notification is removed from the sensor card
      • The status button now reads Pause
