How do I keep a tablet from connecting to weak Wi-Fi networks?

  • Updated

Answer

If your tablet is defaulting to Wi-Fi networks with low signal strength, you can block this by carrying out the following:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Connections, then Wi-Fi.
  3. In the upper right corner, tap the three-dot/bar menu and tap Advanced.
    • In some versions of Android, Advanced appears in place of the menu. Tap Advanced.
  4. Tap Manage networks. The Manage networks screen appears with the Current network and a list of Saved networks.
  5. Tap on a network you want to block from auto-connecting (this includes the Current network), and then tap Forget. The Manage network appears.
  6. Repeat as needed until the list of Saved networks contains only those networks you want to allow auto-connecting.
  7. When finished, you can close Settings.
    • If you chose to forget the Current network, the tablet will no longer be connected. Tap back to Advanced, then tap back to Wi-Fi, and choose a network to connect to from the list of Available networks.
