How do I wipe the cache partition on a Samsung tablet?

  • Updated

Answer

Wiping your phone's cache partition removes temporary files and app components from your device, which can help with performance issues: Slow apps, Lag, Glitches and errors, and Residual files from uninstalled apps.

Wiping the cache partition is different from clearing individual app caches. It's recommended to wipe the cache partition from time to time, especially after system updates.

Wiping the cache partition doesn't affect your personal data. The cached data is automatically rebuilt as you use your device.

The process to wipe the cache partition can take a few seconds to several minutes. After wiping the cache partition, your device may take 30 seconds or longer to reboot.

To wipe the cache partition on a Samsung tablet, carry out the following:

  1. Power off the tablet.
  2. Press the Volume Up, Power, and Home buttons all at the same time until the Samsung logo shows.
    • The Home button may be an actual button located at the bottom center of the tablet screen, or an icon in that same position that only appears when the tablet is turned on. Either way, press that position along with the Volume Up and Power buttons.
  3. Let go of the three buttons. After a few moments, the Android Robot appears, followed by a list of options:

  4. Use the Volume down button to highlight Wipe Cache Partition, and then press the Power button to choose it. A Wipe cache? message appears with No highlighted:

  5. Use the Volume down button to highlight Yes, and then press the Power button to carry out the wipe. The list of options appears.
  6. Use the Volume up button to highlight Reboot system now, and then press the Power button to reboot the tablet. It will take a few minutes for the tablet to restart.
