How do I know that DishTemp is functioning correctly?

  • Updated

Answer

DishTemp comes calibrated (it has a NIST-traceable calibration certificate), so it is ready to go right out of the box:

  • Press the enter button to turn power on and hold to reset.
  • Press the button again to start.

If you would like to verify the temperature, then we suggest doing an Ice Bath test:

  1. Find a bowl big enough so that the DishTemp unit will be fully submerged below the ice and water without spillage (the temperature sensor is located on the top side of the unit, just below the digital screen).
  2. Fill your container almost to the top with ice. Crushed ice is ideal, because it creates a denser environment and a more consistent temperature.
  3. Add water to the container until the water reaches about ½ inch below the top of the ice. Let the ice slurry sit for a minute to allow the temperature to even out. If the ice rises from the bottom of the container, remove some water and add more ice. The water beneath the ice will have a temperature above 32°F.
  4. Turn on the DishTemp unit and place it into the center of the ice bath.
  5. Push the DishTemp unit down into the ice slurry, making sure the top of the unit is well covered, and hold for 10 to 25 seconds to gain a proper temperature reading. In an ice bath, the DishTemp unit should read 32°F (0°C).

If at any time, a unit fails to perform as you’ve come to expect, we recommend immediately contacting our Tech Support team at ThermoWorks for immediate troubleshooting and resolution. You can contact us by phone at 800 393-6434 or email techsupport@thermoworks.com. DishTemp is covered by a one-year warranty.
