If the battery in the probe needs replacing, you will need the following to replace it:
- A small-tipped philips head screwdriver.
- A replacement battery (ThermaPen Blue probes use a single AAA battery).
Carry out the following:
- Close the rotating probe to turn the instrument off.
- If installed, removed the silicone rubber boot from the instrument.
- Unscrew the battery compartment screw until the cover can be removed. The battery is located under a clip on the side opposite the probe:
- Lift the clip and allow the battery to slide out.
- DON’T pull back on the battery clip too far, as the clip will not spring back to touch battery.
- With the clip still pulled back, insert the new battery with the negative end facing out.
- Release the clip, making sure it comes in contact with the end of the battery.
- DON’T try to flatten the battery clip even if sprung. The battery cover will naturally press the clip onto the battery, but not if flattened.
- Replace the cover and tighten the screw, taking care not to overtighten the screw.
- Check to make sure the battery is working:
- Open the probe to make sure the LED lights flash amber.
- Press the Transmit Button 5 or 6 times to make sure the LED lights flash amber each time.
If the lights do not flash:
- Check the battery cover to make sure it is secure.
- Check the battery clip to make sure it comes in contact with the battery.
If neither of those work, it could mean the probe needs repair (see Our probe is not working properly. How do we get it repaired?).
